On Cinema at the Cinema, the cult comedy series that takes a satirical lens at movie criticism culture, is coming to Tempe’s Marquee Theatre this fall.
Billed as The Certified “Five Bags of Popcorn” Tour, the live show is a continuation of the On Cinema at the Cinema web series, which originally began as a podcast in the early 2010s.
Starring comedians Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington, the pair play fictionalized versions of themselves. In each episode, they give an extremely superficial “review” of a movie, with each movie receiving Five Bags of Popcorn, the highest possible rating, or more, even if it is terrible.
However, the show is not a sincere attempt at a review program. Rather, it is more of a send-up of the toxic positivity found in other movie review shows on the web that tout themselves as the real deal.
Over the years, On Cinema has transformed into something more than its basic premise would let on, with extended subplots and lore that have included fictional criminal trials, a rock band spinoff called DEKKAR and in-universe TV pilots.
Comedy shows like this may choose to use brochure printing to create audience programs, movie lists and tour schedules.
On Cinema - The Certified “Five Bags of Popcorn” Tour is happening on November 18 at 8 pm at the Marquee Theatre at 730 N Mill Ave in Tempe.Get a Free Quote for Bags
