Tempe orchestra to pay tribute to Americana music

The Tempe Center for the Arts is hosting a concert, Americana Homage, by the Arizona Pops Orchestra this June.

Featuring the music of some of the most well-known U.S. composers, including George Gershwin, John Williams, and Michael Kamen, the concert pays as much tribute to jazz-inspired modern classics as it does iconic movie soundtracks.

As an ensemble orchestra with string, wind, brass, and percussion instruments, the Arizona Pops will feature the unique elements of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue in all its variety, including banjo by Megan Marshall and piano by virtuoso Greg Kostraba of KBACH.

The film soundtracks for Lincoln and JFK, both composed by Williams, will also be showcased, with Principal Trumpet Daniel Birnschein guiding the grandiosity of the presidential-themed tunes.

With a mission to unite people from a variety of backgrounds through the medium of music, the Arizona Pops Orchestra aims to produce high-quality and memorable performances that both inform and entertain. The organization was founded by Arizona Pops Orchestra President and CEO John Doney, who is responsible for everything from orchestral management to coming up with new concerts.

Organizers of musical performances like this may choose to use brochure printing to create music sheets, programs, and song lists.

Arizona Pops presents Americana Homage is on June 17-18 at 7:30 pm at the Tempe Center for the Arts at 700 W. Rio Salado Pkwy in Tempe.
