A unique blend of roller skating and interpretive dance is coming to the Tempe Center for the Arts when La Patin Libre’s “Melt” rolls into town this October.
The Montreal-based Le Patin Libre is a troupe that was founded in 2005 by former pro figure skaters. True to its origin, their latest creation, “Melt,” takes much inspiration from figure skating -- only instead of being on an ice rink, it is performed on roller blades on a stage.
The show goes even deeper than the impressive athleticism on display, as “Melt” also has a story justifying this new hybrid of inline skating and figure skating. The performance takes place in a post-apocalyptic world.
As the roller skaters search for any life or hope on the scorched earth, they glide past the piles of wreckage, making unexpected connections along the way. Using sheer physicality, the performers convey emotion, humor and beauty in this unique stage experience.
Audiences can also join in a roller disco party after the Saturday show. People are encouraged to bring their own helmets, kneepads and skates.
Performance art events like this may choose to use printing services to create promotional Posters, stage decorations and merch table labels.
La Patin Libre: "Melt" is happening on October 3 at 7:30 pm and on October 4 at 2 pm at the Tempe Center for the Arts at 700 W Rio Salado Pkwy in Tempe.
