Workshops on genealogy set at Chandler Museum

Researching family history can be tricky, but a local museum has an answer for those who are running into difficulties during the process.

The Chandler Museum is offering a series of four workshops that will help people conducting research into genealogy. The presentations are aimed at those who are just starting the process, as well as those who may have done some research, but are now running into difficulties. Denise Ann Bodman, PhD, who is a faculty member at Arizona State University, will present the workshops.

The first evening is entitled “What is Family History and Why Do It?” Dr. Bodman will discuss the basics of genealogy, and why it is important for people to trace their roots.

The second session is “Creating Your Family Tree,” at which time Dr. Bodman will explain how to organize and record information.

The third workshop is “Resources, Tools, and Strategies,” where Dr. Bodman will discuss research methods and where to find information.

The fourth and final evening, “Overcoming Research Stumbling Blocks,” will teach people how to get past a particular obstacle, and discover new resources. Print shops can help provide materials for courses like this.

The first workshop is this Thursday, August 8, from 7:00 pm and until 8:00 pm. The additional three will be on each of the following Thursdays through August 29. The hours are the same, there is no fee involved, and people are welcome to attend as many or as few sessions as they like.
