Maracay Homes, part of TRI Pointe Group, is building two developments of single-family homes in the East Valley—one in Chandler and the other in Gilbert. Both are to be sustainability-focused, green projects.
The builder's hope is that by using high-tech thermostats, Energy Star appliances, LED lighting, and making all systems energy efficient, the homes will use 30-60% less energy than structures without these features.
The project in Gilbert is known as The Preserve at Adora Trails, while Chandler's new development is Hawthorn Manor. The Preserve will comprise 82 homes while there will be 84 in Hawthorn Manor. Maracay will register the two with the U.S. Building Council (USBC) and wants to have them both LEED certified. Executives with Maracay say theirs is the only major home construction company in the area seeking LEED certification for its projects.
In order to win certification, buildings have to meet various standards for sustainability and energy efficiency set by the USBC for such items as power systems, water, heat, and materials used.
Andy Warren, President of Maracay, says his company has been building green homes for over 10 years, and has constantly increased its commitment to this concept. He adds that customers in general are now looking for greener construction options that will have a smaller environmental impact.
Projects like this can benefit when companies work with brochure printers, who can create illustrated Booklets showing the amenities of the construction.
