Chandler children will have the opportunity to learn about a unique craft when The Vision Gallery hosts its Tissue Paper Self-Portraits workshop.
The class is for ages 6 to 16, with the workshop taking place in person at The Vision Gallery. Lora Lee Barnhiser teaches the course.
The first step in the creation of the self-portrait involves the use of a mirror. From their likeness found in the reflection, students will use a black marker to draw their face on a sheet of paper. This serves as the foundation that will be built upon by the other materials.
The next step is to choose from a variety of colored tissue paper. Using a pair of scissors, the tissue paper is cut into smaller segments. The pieces are then glued on top of the original marker drawing. Depending on how it is used, the way the tissue paper is placed, layered, compressed, or folded on the portrait can create different texture effects.
Arts and crafts classes like these may choose to use printing services to create prepared materials for instruction.
The Vision Kids: Tissue Paper Self-Portraits event is happening on Saturday, June 21 from 10:00 am to noon at The Vision Gallery at 10 E Chicago St. in Chandler. Participants are asked to be prompt, as those who show up late may not be given entry.
