Louisiana native Buddy Guy began playing with a bow he made himself. In 1957, he moved to Chicago where he was influenced by great artists like Muddy Waters, and began creating his own style of Chicago blues. He signed with Chess Records in 1959, and also continued playing live performances.
Buddy Guy's career soared, and he had a strong influence on musicians who were beginning their careers. They included artists now considered some of the world's finest guitarists, including Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. BB King and Eric Clapton inducted Buddy Guy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
A review of a live Buddy Guy performance says:
“He’s the real deal. He learned from Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker and all the old masters who are long gone. Seeing Buddy live is both an homage to the past, but also a taste of the blues here and now.”
The reviewer also mentioned Guy's influence on today's outstanding musicians, including not only Beck and Clapton, but others such as Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards.
Buddy Guy will be at the Chandler Center for the Arts on North Arizona Avenue on March 13. The doors open at 7:30 pm. Brochure printing can be used to create programs for events like this, as fans enjoy collecting them.
