Anybody who loves Hollywood glamour has a chance to look at some eye-catching clothes created by Hollywood designers during the period from the 1940s to the 1980s.
The ‘Hollywood in the Desert’ exhibit, which is curated by Robert Black, is open now at Chandler’s Vision Gallery. Black owns a boutique in Scottsdale, where he handles vintage clothing.
Among the designers whose work is on display is Sophie Gimbel, who designed a dress for Dorothy McGuire, one of the McGuire Sisters trio. Dorothy wore Gimbel’s dress to meet Queen Elizabeth II.
Designer Gilbert Adrian will be represented by a characteristic suit. Adrian created many of the suits worn by Joan Crawford. He gave Crawford the silhouette featuring a tight waist and padded shoulders, and was one of Hollywood’s most famous designers.
A gold lamé dress by William Travilla is included as well. Travilla designed clothing for famous actress Marilyn Monroe, including the famous ivory-colored dress she wore in the film ‘The Seven Year Itch’. The film includes the famous scene in which Monroe stood on a subway grating as a train passed, blowing the skirt up around her hips. Travilla also designed a dress for Monroe for the film ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’.
The exhibit is open now, and runs through April 6, 2018.
Events like this can benefit if organizers work with a brochure printing company to create an illustrated booklet about them.
