Film festival planned in Chandler

An upcoming event for film lovers is planned for Chandler.

The Chandler International Film Festival (CIFF) is now in its fifth year; it started in 2016 when organizers wanted to screen international films locally. The festival is one of Arizona's fastest-growing events, and is a way to unite community members through mutual appreciation of film, whether as a moviegoer or a filmmaker.

There are more than 120 films on the CIFF schedule for this year, provided by filmmakers in 35 countries on six continents. Many of the artists will be on hand to share their experiences and insights.

This year, CIFF is partnering with the City of Chandler to associate the festival with the Multicultural Festival, which is being held for the 26th year. Much of the success of the film festival is due to the city's multicultural population.

There are three ways for people to enjoy the films: in the theater; online; or at a drive-in. In addition to showing over 150 films, planned activities include a ceremony to open the festival; appearances by celebrities; discussion panels; educational workshops on filmmaking; a film expo and market; and a closing ceremony, with awards, on the final night.

The festival is scheduled for January 21 to 24. Most of the films will be screened at the Harkins Chandler Fashion 20, with the drive-in films playing at the parking lot of the Chandler Center for the Arts. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for those attending events like this.
