A neighborhood near Chandler Boulevard and Kyrene has been inundated with stray cats, but several animal welfare groups from throughout the valley have promised to help resolve the situation.
Residents in the area estimate that there could be as many as 30 cats could be prowling around. However, Altered Tails, a neuter and spay clinic, along with the Animal Defense League of Arizona (ADLAZ), have said they will help the neighborhood. The two organizations have partnered with another five groups to form an alliance they are calling ‘Fix, Adopt, Save’.
ADLAZ officials have set up a fund called ‘The Chandler Cats’ that will help raise money for neutering or spaying the animals, and evaluating them. In addition, the alliance is asking for volunteers to assist in trapping the felines.
Altered Tails' director of operations, Kaitlyn Wright, said the work will go much faster once more volunteers come on board. She added that working together, people would get the cats inside, out of the summer's heat, and figure out what will be next for them.
The problem was first brought to the community's attention by ABC15, after people in the neighborhood said it had been going on for months without any resolution.
Agencies such as this can work with flyer printing companies to create informational handouts that describe special situations and actions people can take in these circumstances.
