Drugstore relocation brings jobs to Chandler

Walgreens, the giant drugstore chain, recently announced it plans to move the center that supports pharmacy operations away from Tempe, and into Chandler.

The move brings almost 500 jobs with it, almost 200 of which will be filled by employees hired in Chandler. The Tempe center will remain open, operating as a support facility for pharmacy mail services, which are expected to grow in future.

Walgreens said 191 of the positions offered in Chandler will at least meet the median wage for Maricopa County, and some positions will exceed that figure. The new facility will comprise 60,000 square feet, and the positions there will include pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and call center personnel.

Doug Ducey, the governor of Arizona, was delighted with Walgreen's plans, saying almost everyone benefits from it. He added that not only does the move create hundreds of jobs, but it also provides top class pharmaceutical services to the city's residents.

Jay Tibshraeny said that Walgreens' move adds to a developing health and technology cluster in Chandler, which will help bolster an already dynamic economy. He added that he and other city officials are looking forward to working with the company as it moves in and begins its Chandler operations. The new facility should open sometime in the fall.
