Downtown Chandler gets started on new complex project
Chandler wants to create a more inviting gateway to the city, and is doing so by developing new apartments.
Alta Chandler, a high-density urban apartment complex, is slated to be built in the city's downtown. Arizona Avenue, which is currently lined with older homes and businesses and sprinkled with vacant lots, is hoping that the addition of a modern complex will help to give the area a more modern and up-to-date appearance.
Since 2008, housing units downtown have more than doubled in number, with additional retail and office spaces anticipated to follow. The increase means Chandler is likely to reach its goal, which is to expand the downtown area southward, following Arizona Avenue until it reaches Loop 202.
Alta Chandler comprises 301 multifamily, high-density apartments, and will be located near City Hall, on the southeast corner of Washington Street and Frye Road. Alta Chandler will be the first complex in the city to have elevators. The development is designed to hold 40 units per acre, and it is hoped that the project will spur further downtown growth.
Land is being cleared now, and units should be available by next September. The developer could work with a banner printing company to create easily visible material to hang at the site, advertising the new units as and when they become available.
