Last month, the Chandler City Council decided to delay voting to extend the zoning for offices and a data center on Price Road, for a fourth time.
The council opted to delay the vote until December 10, after they were informed the owner was working on new plans for the property.
Chandler has envisioned turning Price Road into a leading employment corridor, and in 2005, it seemed that vision would come true when plans to bring a major office complex and data center to 15 acres of prime acreage along the road were revealed. If and when Chandler approves such a project, it gives the property owner a deadline to start the project. In the case of the new development, that time frame was three years.
The owner made no start on the work, so the deadline was extended twice. Now, 10 years after the initial approval, there has still been no progress on the project, which is near Queen Creek and Price roads.
Chandler is asking Price & Queen Creek LLC, the property owner, to start the project or run the risk of losing the approval it received in 2005. That included zoning for a 60,000 square foot office building, and a data center comprising 100,000 square feet.
As the development progresses, the owner could work with brochure printers to create an illustrated booklet about the project for commercial realtors' use.
