Chandler to get movie theater with dine-in option

Chandler-area residents who patronize the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a combination restaurant/movie theater, will have additional options soon, since a second Alamo Drafthouse will open in Tempe and a Flix Brewhouse will come to Chandler.

The first Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Arizona opened in Chandler in 2016. The one proposed for Tempe will help revitalize Lake Country Village Plaza, and will also include retail spaces and apartments.

In Chandler, the Flix Brewhouse will be the first of its kind in Arizona, and is part of a new project known as Overstreet, which comprises 77,000 square feet at Chandler Boulevard and Arizona Avenue. Flix has a different take on the movie/restaurant combination, with each theater operating a microbrewery. It is thought Flix will have 38 beers available, 12 of which will be brewed on the premises. The developer says it is also making arrangements for people who want to stop in for a beer without going to the movies.

Overstreet, which is envisioned as a major entertainment destination for downtown Chandler, will also offer retail, office, and restaurant space. The project has been in the works for over two years, with the city council giving final approval in February. Groundbreaking could come in March, with completion scheduled for December 2017 or January 2018.
