The Chandler City Council recently approved a new study to determine the future of public transit in the city.
This is the second study the city has commissioned to consider what sort of transit should be used along Arizona Avenue. Among the contenders are buses, street cars, and light rail.
The study will also consider the sorts of improvements that will be needed, as well as additions to bus routes, and details of corridor alignment. The study, which will cost $687,500, won unanimous approval.
The Arizona Avenue corridor runs through both Chandler and Mesa, so the study must also be approved by the Valley Metro Rail Board and the Mesa City Council. Agreement from both agencies is expected this month, with the study then beginning early in 2015 and finishing up late in 2016.
The first study of high-capacity transit was carried out in December 2012 and was a quick, general look at whether the proposed corridor could support high-capacity transit. One of the most important findings of it was that transit had to flow into Arizona Avenue. The new study will expand on that, and consider which type of service will be most effective and efficient.
The city could consider working with a postcard printing company to create cards for Mailing to residents, keeping them informed about the study.Get a Free Quote for Mailing
