Chandler’s Environmental Education Center will soon be introducing the community’s younger nature lovers to some feathered friends that can be found in the local area, and the organizers hope they will find these birds to be fascinating creatures.
Facilitator Lalitha Krishnan will be introducing a group of youngsters to owls, and it is been requested that everyone help to meet the cost of hosting the activity by paying a registration fee of $7. Catering to kids from ages six to twelve, it will take place in the Center’s Coyote Room, and its runtime is one hour.
During the activity, the kids will learn what makes the nocturnal birds of prey special, including how they are able to fly silently. They will discover how their sharp talons, large eyes, and other adaptations have made them effective night-time hunters, and owl pellets will also be explored. They will learn how to recognize some of their calls as well.
By offering youngsters a chance to make discoveries about the natural world, events like this can create a new crop of environmental stewards. Offering each a kit of activity sheets, field guides, a notepad and promotional Pens will encourage them to keep on learning.
This introduction to the world of owls is scheduled for Saturday, November 13. It will start at 10:30 am.
