Architect reveals design for new Chandler Museum

Phil Weddle of Weddle Gilmore Architects, a Scottsdale firm, recently displayed renderings of the proposed new Chandler Museum at an open house held at the McCullough-Price House, near Chandler Fashion Center.

The McCullough-Price House will be part of the new museum complex, and was built in 1938 in the Pueblo Revival style. Architecture of this style is inspired largely by the Spanish missions and pueblos in New Mexico, and developed during the early part of the 20th Century, reaching its peak of popularity in the 1920s and 1930s.

In contrast, the new museum will have a contemporary design, but will be linked to the house by a pedestrian corridor, an arrival plaza, a shaded courtyard, and gardens. The new facility will offer an exhibition hall of 4,500 square feet, and flexible gallery space. The project's design will help protect the status of the McCullough-Price House, which is on the national historic register.

However, the historic structure will be renovated to become a research and archive center. The garage of the house will also be repurposed as a multipurpose room and additional gallery space, and the museum staff will continue to use the house as its offices. The new facility should open in December 2018.

Developers often work with brochure printers, who can create illustrated Booklets that show the details of new facilities.
