Orbital ATK, an aerospace company that builds launch vehicles among other products, recently announced it intends to build a new campus in Chandler.
The location will be in Chandler's Price Corridor at Willis Road, and will necessitate a zoning change, which has been approved by the city council. Orbital began building launch vehicles in Chandler in the 1980s, and has grown to the point where it has almost 1,600 employees. The decision to build hasn't come as a complete surprise, since Orbital announced recently it planned to hire another 350 people.
Jay Tibshraeny, the mayor of Chandler, said the project will have a number of effects on the city and the area. The well-paying jobs Orbital is offering will bring a boost to the local economy, as well as highlighting Chandler as one of the most vital employment centers in the nation. He also sees the move as an indication that the nation is continuing to pioneer in fields like aerospace, which have always been important to Chandler's economy.
The new campus will cover forty-seven acres and have two buildings that total 617,000 square feet, with 261,000 square feet of the space devoted to manufacturing. Orbital is projecting a move-in date of Fall 2019.
This type of project is important to an entire community, so company officials might consider working with a brochure printing company to create a booklet about the organization.
