Vaughan event to focus on training in nature based learning
An event planned in Vaughan will equip those who work with young children with skills and information they can use to add nature to their lesson plans.
The P.I.N.E. Project has partnered with the York region nature Collaborative to offer a full day of training for educators. The learning will focus on methods that will make the participants more conversant with natural world and ways they can share this knowledge with their charges.
The facilitators will share everything from games and songs that include animals and plants to how to build a campfire. There will also be a discussion of edible plants, understanding the language of birds and each of the attendees will be invited to explore their own personal connection to nature. P.I.N.E. project’s Andrew McMartin will serve as the keynote speaker, and a breakfast, lunch and time to browse through the marketplace will be included in the day.
Those who are interested in being included in the training have been offered an opportunity to enroll their own kids in a Nature Camp for the day. Print shops will be able to supply teaching aids and other materials for an occasion such as this.
This training event will be held on May 5 in Vaughan’s Kortright Centre for Conservation. More information can be found on the York Region Nature Collaborative’s Facebook listing.
