This June, the city of Vaughan will be officially commemorating Recreation & Parks Month, with daily activities encouraging people to experience what the city’s outdoor spaces have to offer.
The month will start with a flag-raising ceremony outside of Vaughan City Hall. Throughout the month there will be recreation programs ranging from child’s crafting to tennis lessons to Bollywood dancing. This also includes fitness classes such as Zumba, spin, and strength training, and drop-in sports games like basketball and ball hockey. All of these programs will be offered for a cost of only $5, to make recreation accessible to all. Other recreational programs will be available for free, such as Wednesday workouts at community centres across the city through the Vaughan Fitness program, or swimming and Aquafitness classes.
The city will also be offering downloadable do-it-yourself activities, including building a kite and a Father’s Day scavenger hunt, from its official website. The month will also focus on mental and emotional health, with counselling sessions for youth and parents and free workshops from the York Supports Services networks. Initiatives like this often use online resources and brochure printing to help better inform citizens of everything that is on offer.
Recreations & Parks Month will take place at various locations in Vaughan from June 1 to 30. Participants are encouraged to register for games and classes in advance.
