Vaughan orchestra to revive baroque era

The Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra will be taking the stage in Vaughan this January, aiming to transport viewers back to the turn of the 17th century.

The concert will be titled “In Stile Moderno”, referencing the rise of technical mastery and what is now referred to as the modern style of music. The selection of music will include composers such as Antonio Bertali, Dario Castello, and Isabella Leonarda, and question the concept of what makes music modern. Featured performers from the orchestra include Johanna Novom and Christopher Verrette on violins, Dominic Teresi on the Dulcian, and Charlotte Nediger on harpsichord, with the unique instruments highlighting the 400-year-old musical stylings.

The show will be set amidst the visual displays of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, with attendees also able to explore the collection of Canadian and international arts. This will be the second of four shows from the Baroque Orchestra in Vaughan as part of their 2024-25 season, which kicked off with “A Musical Menangerie” in October.

Later performances this spring include “Solo: A Violinist’s Journey” and “Mozart’s Kindred Spirits.” Classical shows like this often use methods like flyer printing and radio spots to help attract music lovers.

The Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra’s performance of “In Stile Moderno” will take place on the evening of January 24, 2025, at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
