Village Falls participates in grant program

The Menomonee Falls Village Board has voted in favor of a resolution that allows it to take part in a grant opportunity.

The grant is for a project operated by the Wisconsin Economic Development Commission, called Vibrant Spaces. According to Katie Kress, who was relaying information from the village staff, the program offers matching grants as high as $50,000 so that local communities can enhance and develop their public spaces.

The Village of Menomonee Falls intends to apply for a Vibrant Spaces grant in order to make improvements at Centennial Plaza and provide more space for events and programs that will be held downtown. Other improvements that have been proposed include adding shaded structures, providing vendors with better access, an area dedicated to food trucks, enhancements to the landscape, and putting up a small stage for performances. Brochure printing can be used to highlight all the proposed changes in cases like this.

Kress added that the project will help support a range of events that already take place in the downtown area, such as Falls Memorial Fest and Lavender Day, and ensure the new programs in the future.

The report from the village staff pointed out that the village’s Department of Engineering and Development will be working closely with vendors to put together a cost estimation for what it will cost to complete the Activating Centennial Plaza Project. Vendors will be able to submit their bids this spring.
