Scholastic awards break record for Menomonee Falls

The department of design and art at Menomonee Falls High School recently broke a record by earning 25 awards.

The competition of the Wisconsin Regional Scholastic Art honored MFHS with 25 awards at the state level. Over a decade ago, the school gained nine. The awards ceremony was on February 9 at the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the works will now be on display in the Quadracci Pavilion until March 17.

Artwork that earns a Gold Key Award will continue to the national level, while work that earns a Silver Key Award is recognized as the best in Wisconsin. Honorable Mentions also formed part of the ceremony. Art students see the Scholastic Art Competition in a similar way to football playoffs for the state.

Senior Olivia Eis won two Gold Key Awards, four Silver Key Awards, and three Honorable Mentions.

Since 1923, the Scholastic Writing and Art Awards have allowed writers and artists to be honored and given awards for creativity. The awards have inspired and provided opportunity for emerging talent for over 80 years. Artists range from 7th grade up to high school seniors. Students can earn scholarships for college, cash, and recognition.

Print shops can make copies of award-winner pieces, so that friends and family of the artist can have a copy of the acclaimed works.
