Menomonee Falls runner beats time

On April 28, senior Bryce McMurtry and his Menomonee Falls track and field teammates participated in the 21st annual Marquette Invitational, and it was a day to remember for him.

Despite and cold and wet weather, McMurtry took first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.19 seconds. He placed third in the event last year. According to him, the weather is typical for Wisconsin, and his mind is on bettering his times, especially when it gets warmer.

McMurtry also performed well in the 800m relay race, helping Menomonee Falls place runner up at the invitational, gaining the most valuable athlete award. The 300m hurdles and a long jump are two events he wants to display on his résumé. He ran the hurdles and won against his teammates with a time of 41.70. His coaches want him to try for the 300m hurdles, which he planned to last year before an injury concern foiled him.

Hurdles coach for Menomonee Falls Jim Geisthardt believes McMurtry is goal-driven and proud, so his ranking last year motivated him to be on top this year. He has his sights on being first for the rest of the season. The team is set to face La Crosse sometime this month.

Schools often make sports calendars complete with action photos for parents of athletes to buy. They bring in revenue for the school and give the teams pride in themselves.
