Menomonee Falls library to kick off Big Read program

Menomonee Falls' public library will start its Big Read program next month. During the event, participants will spend approximately a month reading a book together.

Working with the National Endowment for the Arts, the library will guide participants through Luis Alberto Urrea's 'Into the Beautiful North'. The novel follows Nayeli, a Mexican girl who recruits seven men to defend her town from bandits. Along with the book, the library will also provide Take and Make it craft kits, which are usually supported through print shops.

All entrants can pick up a free copy of the book from the library before the kickoff date. Throughout the event, entrants can also partake in online discussions. For more information on the discussions, the library's website has specific details regarding dates and how to register. Organizers also encourage entrants to record their reading activity on Beanstack for a chance to win prizes.

In mid-April, the author will visit the library to discuss the book. Participants can take this opportunity to reach out to Urrea and ask him questions about the novel.

The Big Read will kick off on March 13 and will continue until April 16. Those looking to join the kick-off can attend anytime between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Urrea will visit on April 16 for those who would like to ask questions.
