What's Happening in Germantown, WI…

Main Street a possibility for residential zoning

Officials of Menomonee Falls are hard at work reevaluating plans for development within the village. Their attention is focused on the Main Street corridor, which runs along east Pilgrim Road to Fountain Boulevard.

Normally a high retail district, 2008 plans to transform the area into high-density residential zoning have since fallen through, while commercial development has continued. Current residents of the area, which is projected to be referred to as ‘East Main Street’, have been working hard through the approval process so the property can be fully developed. With commercial businesses here to stay, village officials are dedicated to pushing a vision for the area that embraces both retail and residential inhabitants, with the promise of high-density housing being no longer a feasible long-term goal.

Towards these ends, the planning commission intends to convene this month in order to put together the details of this renovation and rebranding campaign. Components of this campaign include the creation of a revitalization grant to fund landscaping and exterior renovations, as well as a connecting plaza running from Main Street to the Menomonee River Parkway, a long-anticipated link between Main Street and the river.

If the village is rebranding the area, a print company can help make signs for the new look. It can also make business forms to prepare for the new residential properties coming in, such as apartment leases and housing contracts.
