Donation drive benefits local outreach team

Students in the fourth grade at Marcy Elementary School at W180 N4851 Marcy Road in Menomonee Falls recently put on a collection drive for charity.

Caryn Deeken and Julie Greenwald's classes have gathered 183 items for cleaning and personal care, which will go to Sussex Outreach Services, (SOS).

The classes chose to concentrate the donation drive on cleaning supplies and toiletries because those items are the least likely to be donated to the organization. The classes donated close to the same number of items between them.

A community service project is an annual event for the students at Marcy Elementary School. The project is centered around respect, kindness, and helping others, and bears in mind that students who perform charity work when they are younger tend to develop positive social traits and learn how to be a productive member of society.

Sussex Outreach Services consists of a group of churches and provides essentials for needy families in the Hamilton School District. Essentials include counseling, clothing, food, education, medical referrals, and healthcare programs. The organization's goal is to provide the community with daily household items and resources to improve overall quality of life. It also aims to educate the public on the needs of the community and the importance of volunteering.

The school could use a printing service to create certificates for the classes involved in the community service project.
