Commission okays zoning amendment

The Menomonee Falls Plan Commission has endorsed a zoning amendment in the village's southeast area that will enable a car repair shop to grow into something bigger.

The commission agreed to rezone property on Reichert Avenue to a Light Industrial District after a request from MAACO LLC. The area was previously classified as a Heavy Industrial District. The current MAACO location, according to Matt Carran, Village Director of Community Development, is on Silver Spring Road. Furthermore, the company owns an adjacent lot in front of Silver Spring Drive and has cars parked outside. Such requests to government agencies tend to have the letterheads of the companies issuing them.

Carran stated that MAACO would like to build a second facility to extend its operations. This new site will handle sanding, bodywork, and priming. Carran also stated that the new site will increase job opportunities for existing employees and relieve congestion on Silver Spring Road. The OC-5 zoning classification would be required for an extension to proceed at the new site. Carran went on to say:

“From my perspective, as you’re looking at this, this is allowing the business to expand and expand away from the open visibility along a major arterial coming into the community. I think it’s a win for everyone.”

OC-5 zoning is required for the use proposed for the Reichert Avenue property. The company has no plans to expand to the current structure at the Reichert Avenue location, although the structure will be modified.
