Boys baseball wins sportsmanship award and championship

The Menomonee Falls boys summer baseball team won the state championship for the second year in a row. In addition, their fans have given the town their third award for sportsmanship in as many years.

Last year, the Indians summer baseball team came in at honorable mention for sportsmanship. It was girls soccer that grabbed the title for the town last year and boys soccer the year before. Along with the award, the Indians won the Wisconsin Championship against Marquette with a score of 2-0. They faced New Holstein for the semi-finals and won 6-0.

Menomonee Falls school district Communications and Community Outreach Director Megan Sheridan expressed her communal pride. The community has supported its sports teams for years and the awards show it. According to Ryan Anderson, the athletic director of Menomonee High School, the culture exercises students and coaches do each year have continually earned them the awards. It is like a boot camp and it is important for the athletic environment, athletes and fans alike, through student made cheers. It fires up the school spirit for a winning year.

The WIAA/Rural Mutual Insurance Sportsmanship Award awards teams who have outstanding athletes, coaches, and fans. Winners of the award are given a banner and plaque while honorable mentions receive a certificate. Honorable mention is still an achievement and the community could have banners printed for them.
