Singer/songwriter heals heartbreak with song

An artist who worked through heartbreak to create music is coming to Yakima.

David Ramirez is a native of Houston, Texas, who has refined his approach over a series of albums. His 2015 effort “Fables” was a collection of Americana, and two years later he released “We’re Not Going Anywhere,” influenced by The Cure.

In 2020, Ramirez shifted gears again, moving away from country and folk influences, and released “My Love Is a Hurricane,” heavily inspired by R&B. Critics point out that despite these changes in style, Ramirez is a strong and consistent artist at his core.

This album was inspired by a woman he met in 2017. He says he felt an instant connection, and began to write songs based on the relationship, including the sultry “I Wanna Live in Your Bedroom.” Unfortunately, before the album was finished, the relationship died, leaving Ramirez to ponder how to finish a project without the initial inspiration.

He dealt with the loss by writing his pain and struggle into music, and the result is “My Love is a Hurricane,” another departure for him. Despite the romantic loss, the track “Hallelujah, Love Is Real!” is the standout and a hopeful look at a different future from the one Ramirez imagined.

The Austin Chronicle calls Ramirez:

“A powerful voice and perceptive pen.”

David Ramirez will be at The Seasons Performance Hall in Yakima on January 12, at 7:30 pm. Organizers of events like these can promote them using poster printing to create effective advertising.
