David Sedaris is known for his humorous essays, many of which have appeared in The New Yorker magazine. He is a New York Times best-selling author who knows how to translate his experiences into stories, which he tells with flair.
Sedaris is a native of Johnson City, New York, but grew up near Raleigh, where he went to high school. He briefly attended both Western Carolina University and Kent State University, but finally moved to Chicago where he graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
His career began in a Chicago club where he read excerpts from his diary. Ira Glass, a radio host, heard him and invited Sedaris to appear on his weekly show, “The Wild Room.” His popularity there led to his debut on National Public Radio in December 1992. He read one of his essays, “Santaland Diaries,” which supposedly described his work as a Macy’s department store elf, and his career took off. A review says:
“ . . . Sedaris . . . proceeded to offer an evening of laughter . . . with his signature mix of wry misanthropy, cogent social commentary, and humane acceptance.”
David Sedaris will appear the Yakima’s Capitol Theatre on November 20, at 8.00 pm. When organizers plan events like this, they will often contact a professional printer who will use brochure printing to create programs.
