Woodinville restaurant named best in state

The Herbfarm, an award-winning restaurant located in Woodinville, has been voted the state’s best farm-to-table eatery.

The honor comes from Travel+Leisure Magazine. The Herbfarm is known for its large wine list, nine-course meals, and its commitment to using locally sourced ingredients, and to the “slow food” movement.

The meals are designed around ‘themes’, and are changed depending on what ingredients are available in a particular season. All the ingredients the restaurant uses are sourced either from neighboring farms, or from the organic farm the restaurant itself operates. The menu is determined only hours before the diners start arriving, and the food is accompanied by a selection from the Herbfarm’s huge selection, which comprises 26,000 bottles that offer 4,500 selections.

The Herbfarm is credited as being one of the first U.S. restaurants to bring the “slow food” movement to the nation. The movement is dedicated to using local products and practicing food production in the traditional way. Movement adherents oppose fast food, globalization, and producing food using industrial means. The Herbfarm suggests that diners leave between four and five hours to enjoy one of their meals.

Operators of The Herbfarm might consider building on this award by working with a brochure printing company to design a booklet that highlights the honor, and also features a description of the “slow food” movement and The Herbfarm’s commitment to it, as well as a sample menu.
