Children eighteen years of age and younger will be able to eat breakfast and lunch for free this summer, thanks to a program offered by the Northshore School District in Bothell, a community only two miles from Woodinville.
Children do not have to be enrolled in Northshore schools to take part in the free meal program, which starts soon.
Breakfast will be available from 7:45 am until 8:45 am, and lunch will be served from 12:00 noon until 12:30 pm. Adults who wish to join their children for meals are welcome to do so at a modest charge of $2 for breakfast and $4 for lunch.
The district's food services director, Juliana Fisher, said the district is committed to excellence and equality in education, noting that during the summer, hunger can prevent young people from learning. Providing food for students when schools are closed, Fisher says, make the school district a real resource for needy families by helping their children receive adequate nourishment while away from school.
The program runs from Monday, June 25 until August 17, except for July 4 and 5. Meals are served Mondays through Fridays at the Northshore Middle School on NE 160th Street in Bothell.
Programs like this are important to everyone, so officials might like to work with a flyer printing company to create an announcement and mail it to area residents.
