What's Happening in Woodinville, WA…

Local theater presents 1950s classic

The youth cast of Evergreen Family Theatre near Woodinville is prepared to present The Music Man, Jr., the classic, all-American musical, written by Meredith Wilson.

The story of The Music Man involves Professor Harold Hill heading to River City, Iowa, intending to convince the town that its young people are in trouble, and need to organize a band for young people. He does not intend to fall for Marian Paroo, the town librarian, or to find the town’s youth charming and endearing to his fast-talking heart.

Hill, performed by Dane Pischke, is balanced by Marian, played by Heather Halverson. Favorite songs from the show include ‘76 Trombones’, ‘Gary, Indiana’, and ‘Til There Was You’. Theater performances like this are often advertised with poster printing.

The Music Man was a Broadway hit in 1957, and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It ran for more than 1,300 performances. The cast album was awarded the first Grammy for Best Original Cast Album, and was on the Billboard charts for more than 200 weeks. The show has been the subject of revivals, a film adaptation in 1962 with Dick van Dyke, and a television remake in 2003.

There will be three performances at Leota Junior High Theatre, on July 25 and July 26. Tickets are $9, and can be reserved by emailing or calling Evergreen Family Theatre.
