What's Happening in Woodinville, WA…

Groundbreaking ceremony attended by city officials

On June 17, the mayor, the deputy mayor, and members of the City Council in Woodinville, Washington, met with Doug Reiss, developer of the Woodin Creek Village Associates, to conduct a groundbreaking at Canterbury Park retirement community.

Poster printing at the event showed a graphic of what the development may look like when it is completed. The new development, Woodin Creek Village, will be mixed-use in purpose. The development will include up to 1,000 new apartments, split between two-bedroom and studio/one bedroom apartments, up to 50,000 square feet in retail and commercial space, 10,000 square feet in office space, and road, trail, and stream improvements, based on reports that Reiss has submitted to the City Council.

Most of the current homes at Canterbury Park will be repurposed by four businesses. The homes will be moved to new locations for different uses, such as migrant housing at apple orchards in central Washington. The developers are also making sure to salvage as many of the mature landscaping plants and trees as possible for use in the finished development.

The current community at Canterbury Park houses about 128 owners. When they purchased their homes as many as 20 years ago, they were told at that time that the condo property was likely to be sold eventually, as the land the property was on had been rented under an agreement that it should be brought to sale in 2008 for development to fulfill the city’s needs.
