Walking tours scheduled in Vancouver

When fall and winter come to Vancouver, so does a local event that has proven very popular: walking tours of Fort Vancouver conducted by candlelight. There are two types of tours planned this year, “Walking Vancouver Barracks” and “An Evening at the Fort.”

The “Walking Vancouver Barracks” tours explore the installation, which was an Army base. Re-enactors in authentic period costumes will be featured in vignettes that give visitors a look at life on the base. They'll see the guard house; look at the spruce mill that was in operation during World War I, producing lumber to build airplanes; hear about the time Captain Ulysses Grant spent at the base as its quartermaster; and see the Vancouver Arsenal.

“Evening at the Fort” tours guide visitors through a number of buildings that have been reconstructed as part of the fort, which was established as a trading post by the Hudson's Bay Company.

The “Walking Vancouver Barracks” tours have already begun; the next dates are November 18, 2017; January 20, 2018; and February 3, 2018. There is no December Barracks tour.

Tours for “An Evening at the Fort” run October 28, 2017; November 25, 2017; December 16, 2017; January 27, 2018; and February 17, 2018. Park rangers lead the tours, and all participants carry their own candle lanterns.

Events like this, featuring historic buildings, provide an opportunity for organizers to work with a Print company to create Holiday Cards.
