Vancouver toy drive now underway

For the third year in a row, Vancouver is asking residents to join in the Korey's Joy Drive – an effort to collect toys for Open House Ministries and Randall Children's Hospital.

The drive is named for Korey Cochran, a 10-year employee of the city who passed away earlier this year, according to an article on the city's website.

Korey worked in the IT department, and is remembered fondly by his former supervisor, Katherine Nye. Nye is the IT Technical Services Manager, and says Korey was a “wonderful man, committed husband and father,” and that a drive to help children is a perfect way to honor him.

The city asks that toys be unwrapped and new, and dropped off at one of the following locations in Vancouver:

• the lobby of City Hall
• Firstenburg Community Center
• Marshall Community Center
• Vancouver Tennis Center
• Water Resources Education Center
• Vancouver Police (both the East and West Precincts)
• Vancouver Fire Station 5
• Bridge Chiropractic on Mill Plain Boulevard

There are two locations in Portland for donations as well: Marquam on Naito Parkway, and the Beauty Box Salon & Spa on 28th Street.

The collection period extends through December 11, with deliveries to be made to Open House and Randall Children's Hospital during the week of December 18.

Organizers of efforts like this can help the event succeed by creating Flyers for wide distribution, asking for donations.
