The Portland Trail Blazers are partnering up with Moda for the Rip City Relay, a weeklong trek throughout parts of Oregon and Washington.
The relay, now in its second year, will make stops at various cities and towns, including Vancouver, where children will be able to participate in several activities related to basketball. The overall goal of the relay is to make people, especially children, aware of the benefits of activity and its impact on overall health.
The relay kicks off in La Grande, then moves to Pendleton, The Dalles, Eugene, and finally Vancouver, before winding up in Portland, where the Trail Blazers will open their season the following day.
Each city on the list will have a full day of activities planned around the relay. In addition, each day will end with a gathering where activities suitable for all ages will take place. In Vancouver, the celebration is slated for the BiMart on Falk Road. Vancouver officials could work with a banner printing company to create a piece that welcomes the relay.
The Rip City Relay will reach Vancouver on October 28, with activities starting at 10:30 am at Orchards Elementary School. Grades three to five will be able to meet alumni and representatives of the Trail Blazers. From 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm., former Trail Blazer Jerome Kersey will be the host of a basketball clinic at Roosevelt Elementary School.
