Vancouver residents who want to celebrate Earth Day have several events to choose from, provided the global coronavirus pandemic does not force them to be rescheduled.
All the events are suitable for the whole family, and allow residents to make a positive difference in everyone's lives. The venues are Arnada Park, Coop Park, Leroy Haagen Park, and the Confluence Land Bridge.
At Arnada Park, volunteers will work with SOLVE and the Arnada Neighborhood Association to pick up litter, spread landscape bark, remove ivy, and finish other tasks throughout the park. The Association will have bottled drinks and snacks available. The hours are 9.00 am until 1:00 pm.
In Coop Park, volunteers will work from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, helping to spread mulch, with help from the John and Margrette Coop Adopt-A-Park group, and the City of Vancouver Parks. Volunteers should bring their own water bottles.
A scavenger hunt for invasive species is on the agenda at the Leroy Haagen Park, where work will take place from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Volunteers should bring water.
Finally, the Confluence Land Bridge Cleanup effort, which will bring volunteers out to assist The Mission Continues, The Confluence Project, and the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, will run from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. They will plant, weed, pick up trash, and spread mulch.
In all locations, training will be provided, as well as tools and gloves. Earth Day is April 18, and volunteers should sign up soon. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for volunteers at events like this.
