The recent annual luncheon of the Parks Foundation of Clark County was a happy occasion, as it was at that meeting that $60,000 in grants was given to the Vancouver Parks and Recreation Department.
The money comes from community grants that are focused on developing equitable, supportive, and safe recreational opportunities for people throughout the city. The four grants were as follows:
The Tod and Maxine McClaskey Foundation gave $26,000 to fund Summer Playground Programs. These programs provide lunches to children from age 6 to 11, from June through August, at five locations around Vancouver. The meals are nutritious and USDA-certified.
The U.S. Bank and the Parks Foundation donated $15,000 to Teen Late Night Programs. The Firstenburg and Marshall Community Centers are the location of these efforts, where fun, healthy, and safe environments are provided for teens every night of the school year.
Nautilus Cares, Banner Bank, and Bauman Chiropractic have teamed up to provide $13,500 for Everybody Plays! Scholarships. The scholarships are used for youth classes, team sports, swimming, and special programs for disabled individuals, all using recreational programs created by the city.
Bauman Chiropractic also provided $6,000 for swim lessons, held at the Marshall Community Center.
David Perlick, the Recreation Program Manager thanked the generous people who continue to support Vancouver, saying their efforts help improve the lives of many residents. Officials can use brochure printing to create materials that describe available programs.
