Vancouver bar calls out to volunteers

A bar in Vancouver will be the site of a clean-up effort.

The bar in question is Frenchman’s Bar, a regional park that covers 120 acres and lies directly on the Columbia River, making it an ideal place to watch the freighters that come up the river from the Pacific Ocean. However, litter accumulates on the beach, and Vancouver is asking for volunteers to help clean it up.

The Watershed Alliance of Southwest Washington is the event organizer, and reminds volunteers they will need to bring their own water and snacks, and to dress appropriately for the weather. Organizers will provide gloves and trash picker-uppers.

Volunteers of all skill levels and ages are welcome, but an adult must accompany any volunteer under the age of 13. In addition, pre-registration is mandatory, and every adult in a group needs to register separately. Volunteers need to agree to the release of waiver and liability, and complete a Clark County Volunteer Participation form. Organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create sturdy Signs, suitable for outdoor use, to direct volunteers to an assembly point.

To keep everyone healthy, volunteers must self-screen before the event. If they feel unwell, have a temperature above 100°F, or have been exposed to COVID in the prior 14 days, they are asked to stay home and let organizers know.

The litter clean-up event is August 13, from 9:30 am until 11:30 am. Frenchman’s Bar is on Lower River Road.
