Vancouver area enjoys economy jump

October saw the highest rate of growth in Clark County in almost 10 years, newly released figures have confirmed.

The county's labor economist, Scott Bailey, confirmed on November 26 that more than 7,000 jobs have been created in the area since October 2013, meaning that professionals in Vancouver and other Clark County locations might want to consider getting a fresh batch of digital Business Cards ready.

In addition, the county's economy has grown by a healthy 5.2% over the last 12 months. It represents the first time since 2005 that this figure has topped 5%.

Bailey puts the encouraging results down to more job security in the region, leading to an increase in spending. He adds that Clark's economy is "close to being in an expansion mode", although underemployment is still holding the recovery back slightly.

The 5.2% figure looks all the more impressive when compared to averages across the state and country. Clark's growth is almost twice that of Washington's average, which was 2.7%. This in itself was well above the U.S. average of 1.9%.

In keeping with this trend, Clark's percentage of jobless citizens has also been slashed from 8.6% to 6.7%, although Bailey predicts that once those who worked in Oregon in 2013 but have become unemployed since are taken into consideration, the actual figure could be closer to 7%.
