Special school to hold track meet

A local Vancouver school now has its annual track meet on the schedule and is offering transportation to the event, although those wishing to reserve their place need to hurry.

The Washington State School for the Blind is located in Vancouver, and recently announced it will provide transportation by charter bus to and from the sporting event. The WSSB is on 13th Street in Vancouver. The track meet is open to low-vision or blind students from kindergarten through 12th grade, and all students must be supervised.

The bus will pick up participants as far away as Everett but will only be able to wait for five minutes at each stop. The pickup times are Everett, 5:00 am; Seattle, 5:45 am; Tacoma, 6:15 am; Lacey, 7:00 am; Chehalis, 7:45 am; and Kelso, 8:20 am. The bus will arrive in Vancouver at 9:30 am. Pickup locations can be found on the school’s website.

In order to request bus transportation, applicants must fill out their application for the meet first. WSSB will provide lunch for everyone, but if they would like to do so, students can bring a sack lunch and eat on the bus, or can request a sack dinner.

The track meet is scheduled for May 19, with participants asked to check in from 8:45 am until 9:45 am. The track and field contests will take place from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. The deadline to reserve bus transportation is this Saturday, April 30. Organizers can enhance this type of event by using poster printing to advertise the occasion.
