Sailing into the holidays in Vancouver
A beautiful, fun event is scheduled for Vancouver.
The annual Christmas Ships Parade will sail past the Vancouver Waterfront on several days. The Waterfront is a new mixed-use development on the Columbia River, where people coming to watch the event can enjoy a meal at one of many restaurants. They can also see the river from the Waterfront Renaissance Trail.
There are 15 days of sailing planned, but the evenings when the ships will be easily visible from Vancouver vary, depending on the route. On December 8, 10, 17, 21, the ships assemble at the James M. Gleason Boat Ramp on the Oregon side, then sail to the I-5 bridge area, and in front of local restaurants for approximately 30 minutes, before sailing beneath the bridge to the Vancouver Waterfront.
On December 9 and 16, the fleet again leaves from the Gleason Boat Ramp, but remains in that area for about an hour, then sails over to the Washington side. Once there, it again sails to the bridge and the restaurants along the shore.
On December 18, the route takes the fleet upriver to about 164th in Vancouver. The parade can be viewed from the Washington side, but will not pass the restaurants or the Waterfront. Participating vessels on all nights should pass the Vancouver Waterfront between 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm. Local businesses can use flyer printing to create timetables of this type of event for their patrons.
