Repair events to be hosted in Vancouver

Instead of throwing small items away, people have a chance to get them repaired at upcoming events in Vancouver.

Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries is teaming up with Repair Clark County to offer repair services. Repair clinics enable people to have their electronics, small appliances, and other items repaired. However, the upcoming clinics will be conducted remotely for health reasons.

Anyone interested will need to visit the library website and perform several actions. First, they need to register the item. The volunteers will pick up the items from the library and take them home, where they will repair them at their own pace. They will then bring the items back to the library, which will notify owners when the items are ready for pickup. Those items not retrieved within one month of the notification will be donated. Those who want to have items repaired also must register for a drop-off time.

Volunteers are unable to work on gas engines, bikes, or microwave ovens. Organizers suggest that anyone who is uncertain about an item should make sure one person can carry it, and no dimension is longer than 24”.

The repair clinic at the Cascade Branch of the library is set for January 10, with drop-off from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The clinic at the Vancouver Community Library is January 25, from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm. Organizers of this type of event could consider creating information sheets by using flyer printing.
