Racing into spring in Vancouver

As the weather starts to warm up, outdoor events are coming up as well, including an annual race in Vancouver.

Vancouver Lake Regional Park will be the venue for the 38th Annual Spring Classic Duathlon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K. Runners will have their choice of the Duathlon, or one of the other three distances. The race also gives Duathletes a chance to enjoy a race early in the season.

The Duathlon comprises three races: a 5K run followed by a 14-mile bicycle ride, followed by another 5K run. Race organizers note that the bike route is smooth, flat pavement with no railroad tracks and only minimal gains in elevation. These factors should contribute to a fast ride, and a good introduction to those who are new to multi-sport racing.

Runners who have taken part in the event in the past will be familiar with the course, which takes place on Vancouver Lake’s pancake flats. The Vancouver Lake Regional Park is both the start and end point of the race and is the original home of the contest. The course is flat, fast, and beautiful, as it runs between the lake and the Columbia River. Organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create weather-resistant course markers.

The event is scheduled for April 24, with different start times for the various races. The half-marathon begins at 7.00 am, the 5K and 10K start at 8.00 am, and the Duathlon gets underway at 11.00 am.
