Outdoor parks opportunity comes to Vancouver

Vancouver residents who want to become involved in maintaining local parks have an event coming up they could enjoy.

Adopt-A-Park volunteers and staff from the City of Vancouver’s Volunteer Programs have asked for help in removing invasive plants. They are planning an Ellsworth Springs East Ivy Pull at which time volunteers will, as the name implies, remove ivy from the park, focusing on ivy that has grown onto the trees.

The organizers will provide water, tools, gloves, snacks, and training. The outing is appropriate for all members of the family, although young people under the age of 18 must have a minor consent form signed by a parent or guardian. Anyone taking part should wear shoes with closed toes as well as long pants, and dress for changeable weather.

The park is accessible to those who use a wheelchair, and the area is mostly peaceful, though there could be noise from nearby areas. Volunteers should be able to twist, turn, kneel, and pull ivy, as well as push a wheelbarrow, depending on their task. They may also be lifting plants to load them into a dumpster.

Ellsworth Springs East is at 1200 SE 98th Avenue in Vancouver, and the event is scheduled for November 9, from 10.00 am until noon. Anyone interested will need to register, and should do so soon as space is limited. Organizers of events like this might contact a printer who can use flyer printing to print volunteer instructions.
