Orchestra plans in-person gala

The local orchestra is planning an in-person gala to celebrate being able to get together again.

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is offering a gala that combines in-person fun and a virtual live streamed performance for those who would prefer to remain at home. The theme of the evening is “Resiliency through the Arts,” and celebrates the strength exhibited both by individuals dealing with the global pandemic, and by music itself. The program will feature an entire day of music, culminating with the concert at night.

The music will begin at 12.00 pm when the orchestra will stream virtual performances from its archive. During the day, attendees will have a chance to bid on items in an auction, which includes prizes such as a trip to New York City to see “Porgy and Bess” at the Metropolitan Opera.

At the end of the performances from the archives, the VSO will play live, with acclaimed pianist Orli Shaham and Maestro Brotons as the honored guests. Brochure printing is often used to create programs for events like this.

The gala is set for September 17, with the archived performances from 12.00 pm until 6.00 pm. The live concert begins at 6.30 pm. Since the orchestra is limiting the number of in-person guests, they will not perform at their usual venue, but at the Hilton Hotel on West Sixth Street.
