An application to build an apartment tower at The Waterfront Vancouver has been submitted by Realty Partners of Seattle.
The plans call for a building with 180 units along the railroad tracks on a block near the western edge of a redevelopment area. The building will be seven stories high. The first two stories will consist of above-ground parking with spaces for 185 vehicles, while the remaining five stories will be residential units. Such sites often turn to banner printing to inform residents of the potential for such projects.
The building will not have any space for retail establishments on the ground floor, which keeps with the vision for the area. Both the Columbia building and another building in the redevelopment also have no space for retail. This would be the sixth apartment building in the Waterfront project following the Rediviva and Riverwest buildings (which have been completed), the Columbia building (which is almost finished), and two other projects on which construction began earlier this year.
Jackson Square Properties is the developer of the Columbia property. The company’s Vice President of Acquisitions and Dispositions said that the western end of the area was envisioned to be a residential zone only.
There are 21 blocks in The Waterfront Vancouver, about half of which are either completed, under construction, or are projects in the pre-application stage. The city plans to hold a pre-application conference with the developer next Thursday, September 30 at 9:00 am.
