Nature workshop scheduled in Vancouver

An upcoming workshop will be fun and educational for anyone with a backyard garden.

Master Gardeners from the Washington State University Extension are hosting a pruning workshop event, aimed at those growing blueberries but want information on how to be certain the bushes are kept at their best. The workshop will focus on pruning the blueberry bushes.

The first step for attendees is to watch a video on the basics of pruning, including choosing which canes should be cut, where the cuts should be made, and when to prune. People are welcome to watch the video at home without attending the outdoor event.

For those who are going to attend in person, the location is the 78th Street Heritage Farm, where the university has a demonstration blueberry field. To get to the location, it will be necessary for participants to climb a steep hill, a walk which could take five to ten minutes. People with mobility issues will be allowed to drive.

Organizers remind people that since the event is entirely outdoors, they should dress appropriately, and bring garden gloves, water, and either hand bypass pruners or sharpened loppers. Space is limited and attendees will be working in small groups, with masks optional.

The pruning workshop is scheduled for February 21, from 10.00 am until 12.00 pm, and the fee is $10.00. The farm is at 1919 Northeast 78th Street. When they plan events like this, organizers often use flyer printing to create instructional sheets for participants.
